Prof. Heiko De Schepper is staff member at the department of gastroenterology and hepatology of the UZ Antwerpen since 2013. Heiko defended a PhD on neuroimmune interactions in visceral hypersensitivity in UAntwerpen, and was trained in neurogastroenterology in UZ Antwerpen and AMC Amsterdam. He manages the motility clinic in Antwerpen, is chair of the pelvic floor clinic and an enthusiastic proctologist. His current research as an associate professor in UAntwerpen focuses on the role of mast cells in IBS and the development of biomarker tests in IBS, and he participates in multiple clinical trials as principle investigator. Heiko had published >60 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and published a bestseller patient-oriented book on IBS. Heiko is secretary of the BSNM, treasurer of the VVGE and deputy editor-in-chief of Acta Gastroenterologica Belgica.
